Default PhysX hobbled on the CPU by x87 code???

Seems like a little bit technical,
but according to this article from Tech Report,nVIDIA is using some nasty tricks to slow down Physics computation on anything but their GPUs in TWIMTBP Physx games.

PhysX hobbled on the CPU by x87 code - The Tech Report

quote from said article:

Quote:
The bottom line is that Nvidia is free to hobble PhysX on the CPU by using single threaded x87 code if they wish. That choice, however, does not benefit developers or consumers though, and casts substantial doubts on the purported performance advantages of running PhysX on a GPU, rather than a CPU.
Nothing surprising really, but worth noting!

If it's true, I'd say don't bother trying to spend more money by playing Nvidia's game of Physx this Physx that.

The first time I tried ripping an MP3 from a cd (2X) I couldn't figure out what all the hoopla was about. A single song was taking around 30 minutes to rip.

Finally decided that my clone chip (pretty sure it was a cyrix, but it could have been one of the early AMD clones) didn't have all of the same hard coding and that the program was using an undocumented hardware call to the chip that didn't actually exist and had to do all of the work the hard way and thus was taking 10 times as long as it should. (Kinda like running physX on a CPU).

I thought it was a well known fact that PhysX used x87? I guess I was wrong...

That's why we're listening to you SKY! You know more than me that's for sure (at least on hardware matters)
