Default 5870? 5970? Whats the best route to go?

Building a new PC real soon, just trying to figure out what would be best for what i'm doing.

I have 3 monitors and just purchased a displayport (active) adapter. So i'm set for eyefinity. I want to be able to play games at the highest settings I can push it.

I've heard mixed things on if a 5870 alone can do this. If it can't I can always return the card within 7 days, no issue.

Should I try with the 5870? Or should I maybe get the 2gb 5870 for $100 more? Then down the line if I need to, get another 5870 for xfire.

Or..

If there no chance a single 5870 can do what I want, and should skip it and go with the 5970? If so, I have heard that xfire with 5970 is not working currently, which would screw me over if one day I did want to xfire two of them.

Whats your take guys? Whats the best logical decision right now?

I would go with the 5970 for eyefinity, and if you ever needed a bit more power you could throw in a 5870 for trifire

What resolution are the monitors? If they're 1080p panels, you'll want at least a 5970 or two 5870s. Ideally you would go with three 5870s or a 5970 and single 5870 for three-way Crossfire.

You can crossfire with 58/59's together? Well that changes everything :) Heard there was lots of issues xfireing the 5970's.

newer drivers shouldve taken care of scaling. i know theres a couple members(i thin samz is one of them) running such mixed configs.

I thought EF didn't work with tri-fire. I'd go with 1 5870 to start, then get a second if necessary. JMO
