Is my gtx 480 running hot

well I just played metro 2033 for about 45 mins, and it temps didn't go passed 92c

When I tested 3 480's in SLI all 3 were between 48-52c on idle and none ever went over 75c on Vantage or on Metro or dirt2.....something is not right with your temps even though the EVGA rep gave you the "speech". What is your ambient room temp?

my ambient room temp is about 80 degrees Fahrenheit
the fans on auto now, and it's sitting at 60-65 c but it's probably goin to go back up to the 70's c
this is definitely to hot for my likings

Well there's a big part of your high temps right there, if the ambient temp is 80 you can't expect the 480 fan to do a whole lot. While it will move the air, the air it takes in is already 80f so it won't cool the card all that well even at 100%. If possible find a way to get cooler air in the room, on a night like this just open a window ;) Of course my suggestion is get that puppy under some watercooling goodness :P

yeah I wish I could get it watercooled but I don't have the money,
since my computer is downstairs we can't get a windows A/C but
I think there are floor ones

One thing that doesn't make sense is the 480 was idling at
47 c at one point, then when I shut my computer off and rebooted
in the morning and it just started idling in the 60 c

Thats why I still think something isn't right no matter what the EVGA rep said. The good news is it does have lifetime warranty (just remember to register it) so if it does die a nasty death you'll be covered.

a bit off topic, but 6-12 months from now, lets say it dies because of the heat,theoretically speaking, do you think theyll have gtx 480 stock for rma? :)

does it matter?....if they don't EVGA is always good about giving an upgrade as replacement so your good to go.
