My System Specs

Default what do I need to watercool my gtx285

A while back I started to do some folding but my vidcard fan started to get a little loud when I was multitasking so I stopped folding, at the time I didn't think of just watercooling my video card. I probably will have to grab another Rad because I am using a mcr220 rad which is cooling my cpu . I am not sure about which parts to get for my gtx285 video card, I was reading around and one place ,which I don't remember where , said that the water block that fits on the gtx280 will not work on the gtx285 ,now I am doubting that this is true but just in case I am wrong I am wondering which parts to get.
could some of you advise me .

Would it really be worth spending as much (probably more) money on getting the card water cooled as the card is worth?

The full block for the 280GTX will not fit the 285. Actually, there are two revisions of the 285, and you need to know which revision you have before you purchase a full block.

Shadow, there's 2 versions of the GTX285 reference card, and multiple vendors with non-reference cards that no full cover block will fit. And no, the 280 blocks aren't compatible either. If you post the make and model of your GTX 285, I'll try to help you locate a compatible block.

As for your rad, if you just have an E8400 and the 285 in the loop, you might be able to get away with it. I had an E8400 and 4870 in one loop on a MCR220 for a bit.

Edit: ninja'd

Model number should be on the serial number sticker, but it might only appear on the box. Look for a number on the actual PCB.

OK, model number is BFG GTX2851024OCE. I believe that's a rev. 2 card, but I'll try to confirm that for you.

EDIT: BFG's own website says that is a B version, which is the new rev. 2 PCB. Any GTX285 waterblock labeled as a rev. 2 should work. Like this one: EK-FC285 GTX - Acetal-Nickel (PCB ver 2) K-FC285 GTX - Acetal-Nickel (PCB ver 2) [EK-FC285 GTX Ver2- Acetal-Nickel] - $119.99 : DazMode, Watercooling enthusiasts store
