Questions about (Tri) SLI and Pin Adapters

How well does a Tri SLI setup scale with new drivers? I'm wondering whether going from 1x GTX 275 to 2 or even 3x GTX 260's is worth it.

What is your opinion on Molex to 6 or 8 pin adapters? I currently have a Corsair TX 850W (Non-modular) power supply and it only has 4x 6/8 pin connector dudes. If I go tri SLI or something, I'll need an extra pair of 6 pins.

Would 850W even be enough to run three GTX 260's? My current rig is in that list and I'm running an MCP655 with a multitude of fans. I read somewhere (can't remember now) that someone ran two GTX 260's on a 500W PSU, but maybe that was on a lower end CPU/mobo/etc.

No. Get a 5870 instead.

Some guy was selling 3 GTX 260 core 216's with waterblocks for $540. I guess it would definitely be better to grab a 5870 with a waterblock lol

Your current hardware can support it, unless you are folding going that route for say gaming is worse off then going for a 5870

So you guys are saying that a single 5870 will provide better performance than a Tri Sli 275 arrangement?...I beg to differ....a Tri Sli 275 arrangement will outperform a single 5870....especially with Full AA/AF cranked...not a doubt about that!! Provided you have a handle on some cheap Cards...go for it...the Scaling from SLi to Tri SLi is amazing on those Cards....yes your 850 PSU is perfect!!

If you cannot get a good price...even a SLi 275 would perform at around the same level as a 5870...maybe even better with full AA / AF...remember though...you will have no DX11!

Really curious ....all "Fanboyism" aside...and other than DX11....your saying Gaming on a single 5870 is better than a SLi or Tri Sli 275?.....I really doubt that...perhaps SLi would be close...but Tri Sli ...you my friend obviously haven't tried that route...

Remember...I;'m saying he finds a great deal on those 275 Cards...still better off than dumping $500 on a 5870 for shvttier performance...

Now don't get me wrong....it aint worth it if you have to pay a "premium" for those additional 275's.....then "perhaps" a 5870.....it all depends upon what your expectations are n what your willing to spend!....oh...and Res!

Tri SLI of GTX 260's will be faster than a single 5870 or GTX 480. I just came from TRI 260's and went with 2 480's as there wasn't enough performance gain going with just a 480.

It is up to you if you want performance or DX11
