Idle temps a more respectable 32deg load is 42. Pretty darn good in my book.

I've managed to clock it as far as 850/1325 but I'm on Vista Utlimate64 and I'm unable to find anything that'll scan for artifacts. So its hard to test.

I've played Crysis for hours on end without any issues.. still not definitive though.

Anyway just wanted to chime in, since this review helped me to decide to get this card, and I certainly don't regret it.

Thanks from a Canuck on the west coast

Ati Tool .27 Beta 3 does support Vista64 and I have it working great using my HIS 3870 & Vista64 Business. As with all ATI Tool releases this will allow you to scan for artifacts.

I use ATI tool to control the 3870's fan and use the ATI Overdrive overclocking tool to adjust the GPU's clock (860 /1300). This setup works like a charm & has been 100% stable for me.

Also I wonder if that could cause problems for benchmarks with the card deciding to slow things down at certain times.
This question is from wayyyyy back, but over the last month or so it's come to the forefront with many 3870 owners reporting problems with Powerplay clocking down older games while in full 3D Mode.

Sapphire has released a new bios which apparently fixes the issue on their cards, and it looks like setting any gpu clock and fan speed hard with RT also solves the problem.

Has anybody here experienced issues with this?

I can say I haven't. But for me the CCC the memory is locked ( cannot move its greyed out ) and setting anything in the gpu resluts in it locking.

Using Riva tuner no problem. But even when I dont load rivatuner and adjust anything I don't have that issue. My fan also worked correctly from day 1 ( I thought some 38's had fan issues .. or am I thinking 88.. too many 8's. )

Brand of card is Visiontek.

Hey! I was wondering if someone could give me the heads up. I'm running the M2R32N ASUS board, and I was wondering if you think there'd be enough room to use the Thermaltake DuOrb and crossfire'd 3870s plus the X-FI Sound card. I'm thinking of upgrading from the X1950, and it's a pretty beefy card, so I have no idea what to expect of the 3870's dimensions, especially with the DuOrb on.

I had a 1950pro (actually two ) previous to this, they are actually very similar in size. I'm pretty sure the duo orb is crossfire compatible.. if it was on a 1900 series it would be on this is what I'm getting at.

If not I know the Thermalight V2 is.

Wooo Whoooo!!!!!!!

Finally got my IceQ 3 in and my initial '06 score is more than double what it was with the 1950 Pro OC'd and the 3870 at stock speeds......

12479 vice 6002. :)

Gonna play with mild OC's tonight, and then do a fresh install of XP to celebrate my finally completed rig. (Hardware wise... still have some work to do to pretty it up).

Initial OverDrive auto settings are 890 / 1330 (2660).... running another 3dmark `06 as we speak...... temps look to be maxing out at around 70C. :)

ok, I've got a problem, hopefully SKY will see this, since maybe its the same issue you had while testing these cards.

In crossfire I'm getting jack all for gains. Ok like 1500 3dmark points. Hardly what I'd call an increase.

3dmark06 1card = 11,000 2card=12600
I'm also using Vista x64 ultimate.
Video cars are Visiontek 3870's
Processor : E4500 @ 3.2 ghz/1600mhz fsb.
Board: DFI ICFX3200 TR2G
Ram : OCZ Plat XTC Rev2 6400@400 4-4-4-12
PSU : 750watt OCZ gamestream.

Did you have a problem getting crossfire to initialize? Or getting any gains out of it? I saw you got a 17,000 mark score, on beta drivers. Albeit your setup is quite a step up from mine, I dont see it making a 5000 mark difference, Most games also expierence no gain from crossfire.

I've treid 8.1's 7.12's 8.2beta's the 8.2 Beta seem to be the best, slightly higher rates, and a steadier higher rate.

Anyway any tricks you found you want to share, would be appreciated.

Thanks

- Not a crossfire newb, my 1950pro's were fine in xfire in this same board.
