Default 7.11 CCC released

Well, well....
ATI did mention Crysis: "Crysis players should continue using the Crysis hotfix driver"
I would not use that at all! If you have multiple GPU's, it will disable crossfire (100% sure)!!! If you have one GPU, than it might solve a couple of graphics issues, but won't give you higher ingame frames!!! This driver (let's call it hotfix) was the first I used when I received my cards 2 days ago and did not help at all!

Actually, the 7.11 driver is seperate from the Hotfix and addresses different issues.

This "hotfix" completely messed up my system, catalyst did not even recognise
my graphics cards - pathetic!!!! Fortunately I made a system restore point earlier!
And my Vista 64 is up to date all the time!!!!

A couple more questions for you, dear SKYMTL!!!!!

You wrote me this earlier:
Welcome to the wonderful world of processor bottlenecking.

What do you mean??? I get such a poor performance with two cards in 3DMark and games just because I have an AMD dual core CPU???
I hardly believe that a quad core CPU would give my rig a 6000-7000 3DMark 2006 score increase!!!!!
And secondly: "I would also look into SERIOUSLY overclocking your CPU"
I've already overclocked my CPU from stock 3.2 GHz to 3.45 GHz. If I go further
it will crash - because of the heat. I use an ASUS SILENT KNIGHT cooler, I know it is not as good as water cooling, but still.....
What are your suggestions??? Wait for an AMD quad core CPU (I don't want to upgrade
the whole PC, change mobo, etc.), or try to overclock my CPU further more with a different type of cooling solution????
For better cooling what do you recommend???
I'm glad you made the backup. Sorry about my stupid post :)

It seems weird though why you weren't able to overclock the single card faster. From what I read, the card is locked so that it doesn't go above 860. I would have thought you would have gotten that at least.

I believe you have the Sapphire brand? I recently received mine tonight, but haven't installed it yet. I'm still debating if I want this brand or not.

I thought for sure I read somewhere that said the Sapphire cards come with the Black Box cd, yet people have said they didn't get it. It also read it was supposed to come with 3dmark2006, but it doesn't. Plus dvd software. It has none of that.

It shows them in a picture here:
VR-Zone : Technology Beats - AMD Radeon HD3850 and HD3870 - AMD's salvation?

EDIT:

Here is another review showing this card coming with more software than what people appear to have received:

Default Sapphire accessories

Hi tcool93!

Yes, I have the Sapphire HD 3870 card - like yours!
The same here as well, I did not get any software (apart from the driver disc)
with the card. To be honest I did not even get a proper users manual with the card
(I'm talking about the fancy blue one on the second photo).
However I have a nice sticker on the card - you do not get any sticker on the card
if you choose HIS!!!!! lol
I read the same about those softwares and I really wanted to have an original 3DMark 2006 :(
You can install Steam from the card's driver disc but that is it - AND IT IS NOT THE
BLACK BOX AT ALL!!!

Default Overclocking!!!

Just one more thing!
I'm almost 100% sure you will not be able to overclock a single
card to 860 (not even 850) with it's factory fitted cooler!!!!!
I SAY IT IS IMPOSSIBLE!!!!! (I might be wrong of course)
Like SKYMTL wrote it earlier - the factory fan on the card is
pretty quiet - and the reason is simple - the fan does not spin
that fast as it used to do on the earlier series. And it keeps
spinning slower (than it should do) even when the card is nearly
on 100% usage. If we want to overclock this card seriously we
might need watercooling on it or a superb air cooling system!!!!!

Perhaps using a fan profile in RivaTuner will allow the fan duty cycle to be increased. I know on my 8800 GTS the fan never went above 60% regardless of temps. I followed a Riva guide to create a series of fan speed profiles based on temperature. Now when I get above a certain temperature my card goes to %100 fan, which cools things down nicely. Bonus is the card is not at %100 fan speed while not gaming and hence quite I'm not sure what % fan duty cycle the 38xx cards ship at though?

I do that with RT too. I set 85% for 2D, 92% for low-power 3D, and 100% for performance 3D. Even just opening up PaintDotNet, i hear the fan start to wind out.

Edit: I'm using an old 6800GS, but it(RT) works well just the same.
