Default GTX 480 main card... Which to choose for PhysX?

So I swapped out my HD 5870 for a GTX 480 (very happy with the card by the way), but now I'm looking for a card to put in there for PhysX/F@H calculations. I can get my hands on an 8800 Ultra 768MB card for $90, but being the first generation of GeForce cards that had PhysX capability I don't know if it would be enough for upcoming games that will use PhysX.

Do any of you have benchmarks comparing say, an 8800 level card with a GTX 200 level card? see what the performance difference is? I'm even curious to see some of the lower level Fermi-based cards, seeing as a low level Fermi card may be a better choice for PhysX calculations because of the new architecture being more efficient?

You must not like money A 5870 to a GTX 480 does not justify the price your paying. However, this is completley up to you, and if your happy with it - all the power to you I have no personal hands on experiance, but I would say a 260 for PhysX, or even another GTX 480.

new Fermi 480GTX... plus 8800GT physx

A very interesting read.

I never claimed to have a mythical uber-GTX260. I've been saying that the 9800GT is too slow this whole time.

I'm just telling you what I saw with batman's built in benchmarking tool:
GTX260 + 9800GT = 13FPS minimum
HD5850 + 9800GT = 13FPS minimum
HD5850 + GTX260 = 36FPS minimum

Batman AA on another system:

GTX285 | w/8800GTS | change
min 22 | 38 | +16
max 60 | 99 | +39
avg 41 | 69 | +28

5770 bottlenecked by 9800GT
HD5770 bottlenecked by 9800GT for PhysX - [H]ard|Forum
So I'd say minimum 8800GTS 512( 9800GTX/9800GTX+/GTS250 as other alternatives).

Haha yeah I read the review that mentioned that, and you're right for most people it won't justify the extra $70, but honestly here is the reasons I swapped cards: The GTX 480 is a beast at tessellation, has CUDA and PhysX, has a larger frame buffer for higher resolutions, has higher minimum framerates, and the drivers are more consistent (even though recent Catalyst's are massively improved). Right now you aren't seeing a huge increase over the HD 5870, but in the future as games start using tessellation more, the GTX 470/480 will be the cards to have with their new PolyMorph engine in addition to increased memory.

Also, a huge thanks to Deviant for that info. Looks like to be half decent you need a GTX 260... I'm thinking I'll stick with just the GTX 480. Buying another $200 card for PhysX alone doesn't make sense when I'm already pretty happy with my performance now.

Can that OCZ PSU even handle another card?

Batman AA is one game.... I do not find seeing the extra steam + debris help with the actual game play. With Physx on it does not make it possible for users to hide within the smoke/steam nor does it make the flowing stones climbable nor can it be use as diversion tactics.

If you must I say go for a GTX 480 SLI.

It's not so much for the debris to be interactive (though that will come in time), but rather for immersion. It's a per-person basis as to whether it is worth it or not, for me it is, others not so much.

Haha and no, I think my poor little OCZ 700w is crying already with my overclocked i7 and GTX 480 in there, next up I'll have to spring for a Thermaltake 1200w. Admittedly though, I have to say that OCZ's power supplies are hella solid and very well priced. Never an issue with mine.

Then that 8800Ultra would be the perfect match! It will keep your room nice and toasty during these harsh winters.

I wouldn't even bother wasting money on a second card for standalone Physx. 480 is gonna destroy anything you throw at it and barely any games take advantage of Physx.

I have plenty of experience with physx and I will say a 8800 GT is not enough. 9800 GTX/8800 Ultra are at the minimum now. The GTX 260 would be a good solution.

Try the supersonic sled demo and see how well it runs for you. You will be able to run it on a single GTX 480 but if you add in a dedicated physx card you will see a huge performance boost.

For me it is worth it as I look eye candy, but I can see why most don't. There needs to be more games with it and I hope there are more as there will be some amazing this that could be done with it.
