Which to buy 470 or /58505870?

I currently have a MSI 260 Gtx and want to upgrade. I am using a Phenom II at 3.6ghz with an MSI K9N2 750a board. Their is debate between 470 and 5850/5870. I have seen the 470 overclocked destroy the 5870.Are these benchies correct? I know the 470 runs hotter and sucks alot of power but i think my Corsair HX620 will hold well. I also have a 7 fans in my case for cooling. It seems the nvidia cards run dx11 better.

Any suggestions?

I had that debate myself and i ended up going from gtx 260 to gtx 260 sli to the 5870 and i dont regret my choice. The 470 just runs too hot and therefore kicks out too much heat for my liking (since this summer is no ac) as well as the lower power consumption by the 5870. An oc'ed 5870 can beat a 470 oc'ed but it always depends on what game or games you play, and what resolution

Radeon all the way for this generation. The new Nvidia cards are just TOO hot and suck TOO much power for minimal gains.

I suggest a XFX Radeon 5850.

Way cooler and way more power savings.

I play at 1680*1050 and mostly all FPS games(bad company 2,Cryss,MW2 etc). I was leaning towards 5870 and OC the hell outta it. thanks for fast response :)

5850 holds best price/performance although the 5870 certainly isnt a bad choice. 470 is actually a decent card for price/performance, but with the 4xx series gpu's they are HOT and consume a considerable amount of more power when compared to the 5 series from ATI. I'm actually in the same situation as you but I've pretty much ruled out the 470 cause I don't want 90 degree air pouring into my room that has no fan and no AC in the summer time, and if anyone sas WELL IT DOESNT RUN AT 90C ALL THE TIME, well yes I would be running it all the time because I would be folding. I thought I had ruled out the 5870 cause it's too pricey but I'm getting some income tax back this year !! :) I probably still might just get a 5850 and get another down the road for xfire, but it seems it's pretty hard to find a 5850 for a decent price right now. If I have to pay over $320-330 for a 5850 I might as well just get a 5870 for around $400, which seem to be easier to find as well. I'm running my monitor at 1920x1200, so even a 5850 would play any game smoothly at the resolution your monitor runs at (1680x1050).

Switched from a GTX260 Core216 Superclocked to the XFX HD5870. I don't regret one bit!
I was ready for FERMI, but FERMI wasn't ready for me lolz...didn't like the idea of a warm air furnace in my computer. I would've spent all my time looking at GPU-Z temperature monitoring....

so I'm glad I chose the HD5870!!!

Went from 5850 to 5870 to 2x5770 on my secondary system, i play mainly CODMW2 and BFBC2.
CODMW2 is maxed out by all of these cards.

In BFBC2, 5850 stock < 2x5770 stock = 5870 OC'D

2x5770 is terrible in benchmarks like Heaven's benchmark though.
