You might want to add what resolution you are gaming at and which Games.

A newer single GPU is obviously better than a 9800x2 dinosaur that may not even have a driver support.

9800GX2's still have full Driver Support.

I think the reason he is asking is because of some reviews out there on the Web which show 280's and GX2's pretty close in Framerates (where as the 275 is a newer Revision of a 280).

I had a 9800GX2 for a couple of years but it ran hot and eventually, even after taking off the metal housing, the thing needed the fans on at %100 during any form of gaming.

Finally, during an install of Windows 7, my 9800GX2 overheated at the "testing video performance" screen and I sent it in to EVGA for an RMA.

I initially replaced the 9800GX2 with one GTX280 and it did not play COD:WAW Nazi Zombies as smooth as the 9800GX2. I run 1920x1200, 4x AA, 16x AS - full everything. It's a powerful card that I have heard folders like.

Now COD:WAW Nazi Zombies doesn't really use a ton of video memory, so I think that as long as you are playing games at a resolution that dosn't use more than the 512M on the 9800GX2, then the 9800GX2 is better (except for the heat issues) But I think the GTX280 catches up in gaming situations that use more than 512M since they generally have 1G of video ram.

Personally, what happened with me is that they sent back a damaged replacement for the 9800GX2 I originally RMA'd, so I got them to send me a GTX280 as a replacement instead. That way, I can probably get another one pretty cheap (or a gtx285) and run SLI which is pretty much as fast as 1 fermi.

I hope this gives you some info for your comparison question.

IF the GX2 happens to function ok with the latest Driver...thats it....nVidia stopped testing Drivers with GX2's ages ago ( from what I remember)....hence no support...
