Default Upgrading videocard, 8800gt to 5770 or 5830?

Just to start, I play at 1920x1080 resolution on an EVGA 8800GT SC 512mb. At the moment, I'm mostly playing BF: BC2 which runs decently fine at that resolution but on medium settings.
Rig is running a Q6700 at 3.2ghz, and 2x2gb of ram.

So the main reason I want to make this upgrade, is not for future proofing but to play current games at higher settings with smooth framerates. A big part of this is that when I try to use fraps with BC2, I drop to about 19-23FPS, and that sort of kills it for me when recording.

Right now I'm considering the 5770. I was initially thinking of getting the 5850, but after having to spend about $160 rebuilding a work computer, I don't want to spend the extra money. (I personally feel that $300+ for a videocard is excessive since I'm not gaming alot or folding.)

How much would the 5770 1gb ($200 after taxes) outperform my old 8800gt sc 512mb? I assume I would see a good upgrade, but would I be able to max out BC2 at 1920x1080 while still being able to record with fraps at a reasonable 30+FPS? (Your guess.)

I was also looking at the 5830, which is priced at about $250 after taxes. Is the extra $50 worth the upgrade to get a 5830? I was reading a few reviews saying that the 5770 performs nearly on par with the 5830 in alot of games but I would like to hear from anyone who has first hand experience.

Thanks! (sorry for the blocks of texts lol)

Like Dangtx says...go 5850, especially if you play at that res. The 5830 is less power efficient than the 5850 anyway, and the pricepoint of the 5830 is wrong....so 5850 FTW!!!

Yea I figured that the 5830 wasn't really worth it. Looking at that relative performance chart, the 5770 doesn't even look like it's much stronger than the 8800gt.
I guess I'll hold out a little longer and grab the 5850 in the future. Maybe after my next paycheque so I feel better lol
Thanks!

Yeah, you're going to need a 5850 at least if you want to max out BC2 at 1080p in DX11 mode.

From experience, 2x5770 = 5870 > 5850 in BFBC2 at 1920x1200.
