My goodness..........I just got a refund on a HD2900GT and ordered a 8800GT.....now I have to cancel that to order this!........Naw, on second thought I'll hold tight on my order. Man the rate they are pumping this stuff out is unreal. ATI better have some goodies in the basket because this seems to be coming close to permanent bragging rights for NVIDIA.

Some of us over at TPU forums are wondering why on earth you tested with 'super' or distributor overclocked cards and not the base standard models?

Anyone can OC a GPU...


The lack of comparing to a GTX also dissapoints, yet I guess it's quite a moot point given the Crysis demo is irrelevant due to it's age, and the GT/GTS score is considerably close. Though, you used "high" settings. I hope you noticed that "high" is DX 9 native max quality. "Very high" is where the shaders really bring the cards to their knees. Did you typo, or mean to put "very high," because 25fps on "high" is pretty bad, when the old GTS can muster 20-24 solid on "Very High."

Maybe you should test it on known full release software rather than a hype demo.

Boy, this has been blown a bit out of proportion hasn't it? This is just a short-term refresh of the G80 GTS with a few shaders unlocked. On the other hand, it does present a great option for people who can't get their hands on an 8800GT.

As to the question above, it is a VERY good one. First of all the 112SP-based 8800GTS is not available in a non-overclocked version and next of all (I believe you were also refering to the GT review) we were not able to get our hands on a stock clocked 8800GT. To tell you the truth, it was only the overclocked versions from XFX and EVGA that were available through Canadian retailers on launch day. Finally, about the GTX question...in the review (or updated forum post depending on which way we decide to do this) there WILL be a GTX tested along with the 8800GTS 112SP since I finally got my hands on an stock Asus model. If you have any more question, PLEASE do not hesitate to ask. Oh, and for all upcoming reviews, the Very High detail setting will be used on Crysis benchamrks. Personally, I can't wait to bench the retail version since I hate benching demos (which is why the Crysis demo is the only demo benched). Remember, since I am running under Vista, medium settings means DX9 but when I am under High or Very High settings we are in Crysis DX10 mode. The benchmark you see above is done in Vista under High settings..which according to the task manager is DX10...which would explain the drop in performance

Any chance you could post a copy of the card's BIOS?
