I certainly wouldn't recomend swapping out your E8400 for Quad Core either in "hopes" of a high OC on the Quad Core to justify a 2nd 470 "later on"......something must be up with your E8400 / Mobo / RAM combo to not be able to get that E8400 up over 3.5 Ghz..?....

As 5il stated, likely better off to get a single 480 or a single 470 for now .....with the advent of these High Performance GPU (both ATI / Green), one should really be looking at "upgrading" old Duo Core / Quad Core to I5 / I7 Systems imo, especially if your running 1920 x 1200 Res...

Linus - off topic - any idea when the Evga 480 vanillas will be u for Pre-Order again ;)

^^^^ Yep...you would likely say "Holy Crap" if you heard Tri Sli 280's at 100% as well....or even Sli @ 100%, would have been nice if Linus had of done that at both 100% (likely only required for running Furmark) and at 75% - 85% (likely required for gaming on Apps like Metro 33.......I would hazard a guess to say that 75 - 85% would also be noticeable quieter that that demo......

Belgolas will have hs soon enough..

It is indeed, just talked to sales rep, no stock, on order though.

I agree RJ on the "somethings amiss with my MB/CPU/Ram to not let me get the e8400 to overclock better" (I paraphrase), but I'll say right out, I'm a noob when it comes to OC'ing, and I've not spent the time at it that I should.

And I've been planning the jump to I7 now for a while, my system is due for it. I was just trying to eek out another 12-18 months on the 775 socket whilst I pay for our kitchen reno. But then, am I gonna see that much of a perf gain going from 8800gt-SLI to a GTX470? Or am I just jumping a little too quick at DX11 when most of the games I run are either DX9 or 10... And what about using one of my 8800GT's as a physx card with the GTX4xx? Is that a worthwhile setup for me? I'm just all twisted here!!!

a 8800 GT is nice for physx. Although for physx I wouldn't want to go any lower than a 8800 GT.

There will be a performance gain going to a 470 especially at higher res. I would say for you on a E8400 it isn't the best to go for 2 high end cards in SLI. It would be better to go for a single 470 or 480. You can upgrade your CPU but I would overclock it more. Have you tried upping the voltages? Seems like if your only getting a 400mhz bump you are not upping the voltages. There are phones that can overclock 400mhz :p.

Hmmm, I think the way to go here is bite the bullet and do the Upgrade to I7. If I'm willing to spring for a card and a processor, the only extra cost I'll incur is a MB and new Ram. Then I'll take the old board and turn it into an HTPC for the TV room....Now I just gotta convince the wife LOL
