Default Opinions needed gtx 280 to 5850/5870?

Would it be worth the hassle of selling my 280, then paying $150-$200 more?

I am using a 5850 and I love it, but that doesn't help you much as I have not used the 280. I guess you have to ask yourself if the 280 is still cutting it in all the applications that you like to use. For me my 5850 is a bit overkill just to play Mass Effect 2, but I guess I'm OK with that. Question is, why would you not also be looking at the newer Nvidia? I have not priced them myself, just having installed the 5850 about a month ago - are they that much more?

if you need to cranck up the resolution or the eye candy, yes. if your card does the jobbe? keep it..altough if you are not sure might be a good idea to sell it while it still holds some value :)

Majority of games it still can run high settings and chug along. But just playing metro 2033 the game rapes the card.

Benchmarks are confusing to me as its between all the newer gpu's, which doesn't give me an idea how my card performs in comparison.

Maybe metro 2033 is this years "crysis"...cause even the 5870 doesn't seem to handle it too well.

no worries. very good reviews on here too, i just like them graphs over at tpu

now, the difference wont be earth shattering. however, as you oc, itll bump a good 10% or more(their card went up 14%) but as brother sky mentioned, later batches(i think he spoke of the 5870's but it should/could apply to 5850's as well) dont oc that well as initial ones

If your expecting some gains in Metro 33 going from a 280 to a 5850 would be a complete waste of $$ and a disappointment........Metro 33 IS the new Crysis......hell it taxes a 280 SLi config....

Ditching your 280 for a 5870 would be advantageous, BUT still don't expect Metro 33 to run like butter with everything cranked...it won't happen....

Yeh wasn't expecting that much out of a new card. As it is Im under 30 fps on low settings (game still looks great tho).

Think im just going to see how ati's pricing is after the 400 series is released. Maybe I can pawn enough stuff to make a downpayment on a 5970 .

Damn cutting edge hardware/gaming is a lose/lose situation.

A 5970? Finding the money is the easy part of buying that card. Finding one in stock is next to imposable.
