My System Specs

Default What GPU to get

I started asking the question in the GTX 470/480 review comments thread but decided it might be more appropriate to make a separate thread to keep things more ontopic.

Currently running GTX 260 SLI with both of them OC'ed to
Core: 675 MHz
Shader Clock: 1458MHz
Memory Clock: 1053 MHz
Fanspeeds: 70%

And rest of system is listed.

My questions is which would be the 'best' for around 1920 x 1080 gaming with preferably the graphics cranked rather high (for now and the future).
I was thinking of the GTX 470 however the ATI 5870 is only a little bit more and well is a lot more powerful card then it. Then there is the GTX 480 but i can't really justify spending near 600$ after taxes on the card that doesn't do that much more over the 5870.

Budget willing to spend approximately 400$ before taxes (hoping to sell by GTX 260s so that the cost is mainly offset by those plus 100 or 150$)

If you aren't going to fold w/ the card, there really isn't any reason not to go w/ an HD5870. It is a better card in nearly every aspect except for F@H.

I would like to fold but where i'll be living next school year has a hydro cap, so if we go over it (and the looks of how the 470 and 480 are power hogs) i dont want to go over and start having to have to pay out ontop of rent

Also, what kind of brand/company is Saphire, never really dealt with them as i typically bought straight radeon ATI cards previously and well they don't make nvidia cards.

I'm thinking sooner then later because i dont know if/when the 260s will start to drop and i want to sell them when they still have a decent resale value

they make cards for ati, probably in the biggest numbers.

not the longest warranties tough.

you can sell your 260's for 250-300 easy..start at 320 for both and see what gives.

Never dealt with them myself but I don't remember ever hearing about their support, and well... People only bring company support up to complain :P

Their warranty isn't all that good in North America. You have to send the card to Althon Micro then they send the card off to Hong Kong. And you pay for ALL shipping costs. So expect a good $50+ to RMA the card.
