In my country a GTX 480 is 810 CAD and a HD 5870 is 493 CAD. So you tell me that I must pay 317 CAD more for a hungry furnace just to have 8 FPS more in AvP

That really sucks for you but it's not that bad in major markets so really not a valid point.

I don't get the hate. 480 does not run that much hotter then my 275s. It has great performance and if it wasn't for the lack of games that need a card like this I would be all over it. I think for the enthusiast with money the value is there. Better min and avg fps in most games then a 5870. Handles AA way better. It's a better card. Ya power consumption and heat suck so what, trade off for more performance. If you are complaining about needing a bigger psu or whatever then this card is not for you.

Geez, I can't believe they actually managed to catch the first person on camera whilst they were in the process of making the first pre-order in N. America for a GTX480 (at a price to be determined on purchase date). I guess noone told him about the 1bln more transistors NV used to get that whopping performance increase (rape) cited by Burebista, above.

Guys what you take on what said on page 15 in legitreviews 480 review ?

The article claims that a 480 coupled with 2 lcd screens idles at around 90C?

Idles?

This kind worries me. How many users doesnt have 2 lcsīs running for their eveyday use? I sure do.

SKYMTL did you by any chance see this when you tested the cards? Or is the claim just bogus?

Nvidia cards don't go in 2D mode on idle when using 2 monitors, this is true, I had this problem with 200 series. Not my concern anymore, because I use one large monitor now, but it was annoying having card running at full speed during small tasks.

Edit: just checked the page, apparently GTX 480 does slow down on idle on 2 monitors, but not enough.

It is a valid point because I speak about UE market (Germany and Great Britain for example). You guys in North America are lucky, rest of the world not.

And from my point of view it's not hate for green just the fact that Fermi comes too late, too hungry, too hot and too pricey for a couple of FPS's more than a six months "old" Cypress.
Unfortunately from all those facts we consumers are hurt because ATI has no reason to drop prices.
I'm curious about Fermi for the masses those rumors about GF104 ((256SP, 64TMU, 256bit) but even then ATI have an ace in their sleeve: price drop and 6000 series.

as long as you guys keep it civilized...:)

it may take 2 full revisions, not just one, for the new cards to shine...probably.

didnt know fermi was a bank breaker over there..i mean usually its more expensive but that much difference? hmmm...its probably the stores jacking the price up more than nv would want them to.

It would be nice to see Quad GTX 480's vs Dual HD 5970's.

Something cross my mind right now. It looks like nVidia deliberately choose lower prices for their Fermi paper launch in strong economically countries and after reviews/launch prices will rise. At least those guys said that.
I'll investigate further maybe it's just a hoax.
