9600GSO,is there an equivalent newer card out there?

I bought my EVGA 9600GSO about 2 years ago,was a great deal at the time.I'm wondering if there is an equal modern day card out there that is quieter and less power hungry,but also great bang for the buck.I'm way outta the loop on todays vid cards.Thanks.

well, what power supply do you have, what resolution do you game at, and whats your budget? the newer low end nvidia do a good job at heat/power, not too good for gaming tough.

The closest thing in performance to the 9600GSO would be the GT 240, but performance-wise it's still not great compared to the better GPUs out there. If you could provide a specific budget it would be easier to make recommendations.

I have a 550w ps,it's decent,heavy,Sparkle,if I remember correctly,I game at 1280x1024(LCD default),but I'm not much of a gamer(I'm 44 lol) but I did just finish,COD Modern Warfare,that was fun!My 9600GSO seems to play what I need(Phenom2 x545,2 gig ram,WinXp),but its a little loud and hot ,I watch dvds on my pc in my bedroom,prefer a quieter card thats more efficient,but that I can play the odd game on too.I kinda prefer Nvidia,I've had more experience with them and I seem to less issues when it comes to drivers.I was looking at this: http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...SI%2FMicroStar ,79.00 after rebate.Is a 250 much faster??Budget?Cheaper the better,but 100-150 max.Thanks

Correct me if im wrong, but a 250 is more like a 9800GT-ish, 20% performance gain or around there. This is assuming you have the 9600GSO with 96 stream procs., if you have one of the more crippled gso's then it may be a bigger step up, 250 has 120 or so.

Usually quiet/low power and performance don't work in the same line, but the latest from ATI looks pretty promising. As for performance, the 260 core 216 still holds it's ground pretty well afaik

I would stick with EVGA or XFX for warranty coverage if I were to chose a Nvidia product. MSI is a little sketchy in that regard. I am not sure but I think AMD owns most every price point in terms of mid range performance right now so don't count them out.

My GSO would be the "crippled" one,but it's doing ok so far in that respect.
