So whats the difference between a 240, a 250 and now I see this " BFG 9800GT Ecointelligence"? It uses 30% less power then a regular 9800GT,how does that compare to a 240 and 250?They all don't seem very different,LOL.

9800GT Ecointelligence is basically a 9800GT/8800GT but it doesn't require a 6 pin power adapter, so it draws all the power from the PCI-E slot.

240 = 9600 gso....but is a new core.
250 = 9800 GTX +...literally, it is a tweeked 8800 GTX to a 9800 GTX to a 9800 GTX+...this I am sure of.
In case you have not noticed...Nvidias only new card since the 8800 series is the GT 240. They have just done refreshes on them and renamed them...at least in the more budget oriented cards anyway...think what you would like about that. The 260, 275 280, 285, are new cards as for the "green" cards...they are usually part that did not quite meet spec...so they underclock them and call them "green" or "Ecointelligence"...the real name is defective. They do work though...and do draw less power. So if you are not to worried about the performance, then they will be just fine for you. The 9800 GT "should be faster than the 240...the "green" part might affect that though, and it is not as fast as the 250

Simple answer
240=9600 gso=tweeked 8800 gs
9800 gt=tweeked 8800 gt
250=9800 gtx+=tweeked 9800 GTX=tweeked 8800 GTX

the 240 is new...9600 gso is a 8800 gs
9800 GT is a 8800 GT
250 is a 2nd gen tweeked 8800 GTX

There...now you should be really confused.......just buy a 240...you will be happy.

I'm considering a GT 240 although mostly because I'm a Linux user.

If you were going to get one, I would choose this one:

Zotac GeForce GT 240 512MB DDR3 AMP! Edition @ newegg.ca - $102.99

NCIX has XFX 4770"s on sale. Should be a bit of jump-up from the GSO if he"s wanting to go RED.

Just pick the one with the best warranty. If you can get lifetime..great. But get the best you can. The parts in this price range will all be very similar as far as performance goes.

And I stand corrected on the Ecointeligence 9800 gt card. It is the same as a regular 9800 GT...just less power...so it might make a good choice for you, all the specs are the same as a GT 240 and you get more shaders.

Either go 4770 or this

Newegg.ca - ZOTAC ZT-20105-10P GeForce GTS 250 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

$106 after MIR

and comes with lifetime warranty.

Currently, I have 3x EVGA GTS 250s and a EVGA 9800GTX+. The 250s definately take LESS power than the 9800GTX+.
