Is that 9600gso you have really that bad though? I just got one on sale this year (the asus version with 512MB GDDR3, but still having 96stream procs) and it does everything i need running on a 23" lcd (well not at native res, but close to it). If noise is an issue you could probably try an aftermarket cooler and see how that helps you out as far as noise/heat

I've thought of an aftermarker cooler, but a decent one isn't cheap(and I am,lol) so I thought of buying a new card thats cooler, quieter.Hmmm I checked that chart at Tom's ,didn't realize the GSO is still at the mid upper end(although mine would be a little lower,48 shaders??)Maybe it's too early to replace just yet.Thx.

Food for thought:

Have you considered removing the shroud from the video card and zip tie a 120mm fan on to it, should lower noise and temps a lot.

GT 240 = 9600 gso...but less power
GTS 250 = 9800 GTX....about the same power

Your sparkle should handle either. I have a 420 watt Sparkle that has run a Q6600 and 8800 GTS 512 for 1 1/2 years...and it is now powering a 965 AMD and the 8800 GTS 512, both of wich are folding 24/7.

Ok,well thanks for the input all.Unless a really good deal falls out of the sky on a decent card maybe I'll just wait a little longer until another modern 9600GSO caliber card happens.Thanks.

Get the Gigabyte GT240 1GB GDDR3 or GT240 512MB GDDR5. Both will be a very mild improvement but will take half the power and 2/3 less heat noise as the Old GSOs.
