Personally, I think the change to ASUS' reference HD 5870 is actually more interesting than the Matrix. Just don't tell ASUS that.... ;)

Agreed! Looks like a very well designed cooler and fan, can't wait to see it's temperatures and noise especially (my money is on cooler & quieter than any other 5870).

Enlarge the pics of the new "reference" design. There be copper in there!

That V2 looks great. Seems with the larger fan and fins, might result in better cooling, with lower fan speeds.
Hope you get a chance to test these when them come.

Looks like the Matrix is ideal for running an Eyefinity setup. If there's a review of this coming, would be nice to bench it with Eyefinity and see the 2gb framebuffer in action.

Yeah, it would be nice....but it won't happen.

I like the look of the Matrix better than the V2. But Im still waiting for Fermi to be released and seeing the difference in performance vs ATI. Im hoping to also see Sapphire Atomic version for the 5870 or 5890 (if they do a refresh).

I'm more interested in the V2 for water-cooling.

From the picture it looks like the attach plate can be cut down for single slot water cooling. All other reference 5870 I have seen have their 2nd DVI on the second slot.

But it is non-reference board so I don't know if standard blocks will fit it. Anyone have an idea from the picture how far out-of-reference the layout really is?

I highly doubt you will be able to use the same full coverage block.

How do all of you think this 5870 V2 will compare to a 5870 Vapor-X? If iit's as quiet and cool I might have to jump ship from Sapphire... as long as performance doesn't take a hit that is :D
