Default Video card burning??

Hey guys! I was just playing COD6 and then... BOOM! my screen went down and I couldn't restart it. And then I smell a really weird smell, like if some plastic was burning... And I thought my screen burnt or my video card burnt...

But here is the catch: the Acer I have won't power-up, but when I attach it to another power cord, it can!!!

I also have another Dell monitor and when I plug it to my video card, everything is fine (my system is booting, can get to the desktop without an hitch)... That's why I don't think it's my video card... Because anyway it is not that old (GTX 260).

I can't explain the monitor mystery though... Canit be the power cord?!?

The only problem is that when I smell the exhaust of my GTX 260 is that I can smell (but very faintly) the same smell when my screen went down...

Sounds like your monitor overheated, or some capacitors gave up the ghost in the monitor power supply.

If it works under load with another monitor, your GPU is fine.

There is a problem though: as soon as I plug the DVI connector from my GTX 260 to my monitor, the monitor goes down...

When I try the same monitor on another system (with an HD4870), it can show an image without any problem...

I will try testing my videocard at full load with my old CRT.

I am running a good old GTX 260 (192sp) with the 186.35 drivers.

I ran Furmark for less than 20 mins and I got an error message saying the NVIDIA Open something suffered from a unrecoverable error and needs to close this application...

Seems my GTX 260 can't hold full load... What do you guys think??

Just for clarification did you have 2 monitors hooked up to the same videocard? (GTX260)

Also clarify: Are you hot-swapping the monitor cable? Sounds like it.
