Default 5870 Case Fit?

I've decided I'm going to go for the 5870 from the GTX260 216.

Its upgrade season, and prices seem to be going up, not down.

I have a very old computer case though. Ultra Aluminus, will I have trouble fitting the card? I barely placed my 260 card in, does anyone have experience with this case?

This video should help you figure it out:

Enter this in YouTube:

It's good for visualizing how much space you'll need but it also helps if you can get your hands on a tape measure and then measure inside your case where the card would go.

'Hope that helps a bit. :)

If your case has an extra inch for the gtx 260 the 5870 will fit fine.

so 11.5"

Looking at it, you might have to break out the tinsnips and cut a small portion of that cage out. Its mightly close to the edge of the mobo tray and the 5870 easliy clears ATX mobo trays.

That'd be sad, it's a neat case

Ah...there doesn't seem to be too much space left to be honest.

I remember when I first put the card inside, it barely fit, I had to "wiggle" it in. And then there's the PCI-E power connector that is at the worst possible location, requiring an extra inch or so, that I am sure I don't have.

2nd qs, does anyone know if TigerDirect instore will price match my local computer store (15 mins from my house)

Welcome to Filtech Computer: Your Best Computer Bargain in Toronto.

Its closed tomorrow but I just want to pick up my card badly since Sunday is the only day I have to screw around with it before a long week of work starts with overtime and all that.

The price diff is well over $100 for the 5850s and 5870s.

Ughh...

The 5850 probably may not fit. The GTX260 which is the same size as GTS there, barely fits.

I am at a loss, if I purchase from Canada Computers, who seem to be the cheapest for this card in Toronto, I'll be charged restocking fee if it doesn't fit.

The 5850, the PCI-E adds to the length of the card, either way I'll be charged restocking fee (15% of card price) if I have to return a undamaged card.

Judging by the pictures of your case and your description, I would say there is no way the 5870 is going to fit without some "modifications" to the case.

Even the 5850 would be tough, since its connectors are on the end of the card (the 5870 are on the side).

I don't have a camera that works in the dark very well. I am not sure if its against forum rules, I will remove if not. I have attached a pic from nvidia forums of the gtx 260 sitting inside an Aluminus Case.

This doesn't look promising at all. Case upgrade was something I didn't need right now.

Damn thats tight.

5870 is impossible for you as of now, your gonna have to wait for a rev 2 PCB design.

5850 will be a fine fit for you.
