Question ATI Radeon 5870 or Dual SLI GTX 280 SC

I currently own an EVGA GTX 280 SC card. I was considering buying another one and do a dual SLI setup.

As an alternative I am also considering to sell my GTX 280 and buy a single ATI Radeon 5870!

Which is better?

Dual GTX280s would be better in games where SLI scales well, but I personally don't think it would be worth dealing with the heat and power consumption. Unless you're using a 30" LCD anyway, a single 5870 would be plenty for any game.

Well, I must update my signiture. I am using a 30" monitor - Dell 3008WFP!

So are you saying for a 30" monitor an SLI setup would be a better choice?

Depends on the game really. I would probably still go with a 5870 if I were in your place, simply because I'm not a big fan of multi-GPU setups for gaming compared to single faster cards.

Dual GTX 280's hands down is a MUCH better solution. Not only is it cheaper if you get one used but it is much faster.

2 x gtx 280 has too many cons. Its better to go 5870.
