Visiontek any good?

Hmmm... So I ordered a couple 5850's through work, but instead of the MSI's that I ordered, (they're oos at our supplier) I've been offered a couple Visiontek cards for a pretty nice price. Does anyone have any experience with Visiontek? I've never dealt with them before, but they do come with a lifetime warranty. I'm also under the impression that all 5850's in the firest rev. are created equal? And just stamped with the various brand stickers? (Correct me if I'm wrong)

So to summarize: wait 3 weeks or so for the MSI's to come in stock? Or save $40 per card and go with Visiontek's now.

VisionTek can claim a lifetime warranty but from what I hear, they have no warranty support to speak of. One way or another, both MSI and VT use reference-based cards so you are just as likely to get a defective one no matter which manufacturer you go with. Just be aware that most of the time you can RMA MSI products within Canada.

I have a visiontek 4870x2 for a while, never had a problem with it and their tech support seemed capable (and english!). I'd say go for it. Can't go wrong with a lifetime warranty (just make sure to register the cards).

I thought Visiontek had an RMA center in Canada? Hmmm... could be wrong

Good to know someone's had decent experience with them. I might take the savings. $80 total isn't anything really to sneeze at.

It's really up to you: Do you want 3 years of great service or a "lifetime" of regular service? lol. I don't think I'd mind jumping through a few extra hoops if it means I could RMA a dead card 4 or more years later.

Yeah, I think I'll take the Visiontek's. I'm pretty sure our supplier has a hardware warranty contract with my work for 'return for exchange' for the first year on all hardware anyway. So it's only extended life issues I'd be concerned with for RMA, and I don't plan on OC'ing them or swapping coolers.

i dont think they have issues with rma's, its how its handled. a manufacturer that does 1k rmas a month is quite a leap from one that does 1/10th or less (less products sold, less chances youll get returns)

and reference design is not bad.

Well it looks like this is now a non-issue. I'm canceling my Visiontek order as I just received word that I'll be able to order through NCIX starting later in the week! So now the tech world is my oyster for video card ordering!

I'm just doing an rma through visiontek on a lesser card and this is how it goes.
Tech support is through amd.
Online rma application.
Email back and forth for an rma # ( no phone calls).
Mail card to East Dundee, IL USA with a $10 cheque for return shipping.
Hope that you get something back sometime in the future.

I think I'll be going with an XFX solution now since I have the doors open. They're not the top cards, but they're 'double lifetime' warranty + great service + Canadian RMA depot = a great combination for feeling secure in your purchase.
