Default P6X58D Trying get crossfire working 5870

When installing 2 5870 in a P6X58D MB do i have to change anything in the bios.

Ran 3Dmark6 on both cards separately each card scored 18700 but when done in crossfire they scored

19700 is that normal.

Do I install 1 or 2 bridges Thanks C

No BIOS setting is necessary. 1 CF bridge is enough. A second won't "add" any performance.

3DMark06 is hardly the benchmark to use for testing a CF setup although yes, when I had CFed to 4890 cards, I also got some mediocre 1000-1500 point bump.

Try with 3DMark Vantage and most importantly, install Fraps and run some recent games. Just watch the FPS.

Really.

ORB - Compare 1 Bridge
ORB - Compare 2 Bridges

The default 06 bench is massively bottlenecked by the CPU speed.

The inside card will probably run a bit warmer, but I've always found card #1 to run hotter anyway, even if it has better cooling. I specifically look for motherboards with at least 2 slots between between the x16 PCI-E slots to give cards more breathing room. It's probably not easy to get at the locking clip with the cards that close.

I think the fans can get air from the rear ports as well. My old Badaxe2 board has their PCIe slots close like that but I only ran single slot cards in it. Hanners over at Elite bastards has a setup that is similar and doesn't report any problems with it.

Crossfire/SLI doesn't scale linearly, let alone the software developers don't code for more than two usually. Two cards is the sweet, after that, it's luck of the draw.
