Default Overclock to get rid of coil whine?

My gtx 285 has always had coil whine, mainly under load, and main screens on games. Since i have started folding i have somewhat gotten used to the noise.

Last night i decided to play with the overclocking tools for my card, and i was just quickly seeing where it would barf out on me. First few tries the pitch got higher and higher, then it hit a point where it made the gpu crash and windows recovered it....ever since then no more whine.
