now imagine running it in SLI with 2 others .... hehehehehe
4GB of on board ram!!!

A single 5870 is faster than that. Offloading your graphical needs to a fully loaded Tesla server is a better bet than a workstation card.

really... i would have thought the workstation graphics card would perform better because workstations need more power... so they perform differently but not necessarily better???

If you dive down to architecture level, they're the same thing but it's the insane driver optimizations that cost you the extra 3000$ for the workstation card. They mucho faster than consumer GPUs with workstation apps. Ironically, the workstation card is often slower than a consumer card for gaming.

The drivers change the game. Enthusiasts have been flashing consumer GPUs with quaddro/fireGL bioses since the beginning of time to save money. They'll lose gaming performance but gain wicked workstation performance.
