Default 4890 vs 4870X2 Crossfire?

What would be better to crossfire the 4890 or the 4870 x2 with my already owned 4870?

I'd take the X2 route unless you can OC the 4870 to 4890 speeds. CF seems to have better minimum FPS than Tri-fire. I believe it scales better. But then that is old info. Newer drivers may have changed that scenario.

the 4870X2 Tri-Fired with your 4870 will be much faster than a 4890 Cross-Fired with a 4870.

It's funny you should mention this as I was searching for some answers to a similar question when you asked. Here is a review I stumbled upon but I think the CF support has improved since this was done. But I thought you might like to view it anyway. Link.
