Default 4870X2 + 4870 Tri-Fire?

I was wondering if I can crossfire my 4870X2 with a 4870? I'm assuming it isn't worth it, but the 4870s are only going to get cheaper and cheaper. Will I see any performance boost at 1680 x 1050, and 1920 x 1080?

You should be able to, it's an officially supported configuration.

I wouldn't bother though.

Yes, I've tried it, and it works. Decent performance boost too, I got very close to my old(sniff, I miss it) 2x 4870X2 Quad-Fire results in Tri-Fire.

Well, 4870's are cheap as dirt now, and I am pretty sure the Rampage Extreme x48 runs x16/x16. None of this x16/x8 or x8/x8 stuff. Hm... It wouldn't bottleneck with a Q9550 would it?
