Just my two cents so don't take it as gospel, but none of the new mid-range cards have impressed me much when it comes to gaming performance.

My vote would be for the 1950pro, or if you can find one around go for a 1950XT :)

What size monitor are you planning on hooking it up to?

Well if you want DX10, then get the 8600GTS, however the X1950 would give you better performance in DX9 stuff. Both those games should have DX9 support and maybe have DX10 too. Crysis does for sure, not sure about NFS Pro Street.

If you have the cash, maybe look into the 8800GTS 320MB. That would give you good performance in DX10 and DX9.

Also, whats the rest of your computer specs? A video card might not be all you need...

Another vote for the X1950 XT 256MB here. Powerful, yet incredibly dirt-cheap!

FYI: much of the early, ubiquitous Crysis gameplay footage that we've come to know ran on a 7800 GTX.

I have AMD Athlon64 3000+ clocked 2500mhz, 1,5gb apacer RAM, Nforce 4 chipset. I think NFS should be for dx9 too.

Well I don't know how much money you have to spend, but you might want to look into getting a dual-core. May be difficult to find if you have socket 939, but the X2 3800+ still seems to be around.

1.5GB of RAM is a weird amount, maybe get 2x1GB (aka 2GB) as that results in having dual-channel as well for more bandwidth.

As it stands, I think the CPU is going to hold back either video card slightly. However the X1950Pro is still the best bet.

With 1.5 gig I'm betting he's running S754 so no easy DC upgrade for him.

I have socket 939, and I planed upgrade to 3800+ for now. After Christmas I'am gone to buy whole new PC, but for now my old G Card is bad, I have GeForce 6200 unlocked to 6600td. I'am running Dual Chanel mode for Ram, 2x512 and 2x256mb in pair.

I wasn't even aware that was an option (two different sized banks in dual channel).

Learn something new every day..... :)

Personaly i would buy a Dual core cpu and a 1950pro/xt card

that way you could push you "new"computer plan for another 6month and save money

a 3800+ well clock with a 1950Xt is more then enough for todays games
