will a 5870 fit in a HAF922? and when is coming the 5850?

Most decent PC cases will have a FAQ or a spec sheet that shows the length of the clearance that accomodates the video card.

For example, my CM 690 -- CM 690 - Cooler Master

It shows that 314.9 mm max card length.

So, yeah. Check the websites and you can often find the information.

Two things to remember however that will affect your clearance:

1- direction of your Hard Drive tray and therfore the connectors can be an issue.
2- position of the 6-pin / 8-pin connectors on the card can be an issue if they are in the back of the card (like the 5850 will be) as opposed to the side like the 5870.

I had to cut out a slice of my hard-drive tray from my Antec Solo to accommodate my GTX 260 216SP. Fortunately, I cut extra deep, so I think the extra 0.6" won't be a problem on the HD5870.
