Default DX10.1, the end of Dx10 cards?

What do you make of the DX10.1 makes Dx10 cards obsolete?
Microsoft Writes Off DX10.1 Fears : Next Generation - Interactive Entertainment Today, Video Game and Industry News

Also any idea how long DX9.0 or "XP" will be supported by future games?

Trying to decide whether to buy 8800 now and enjoy some of the newer games:halflife 2-ep 2, bioshock, assasins creed or stick it out with my 7950GT till the new year and overhaul the whole system cpu up.

better to wait personally you would get a much better system. Your current card is cappable of running all the current games so if you can wait till holidays than wait. but if you can't then buy the new ones.

can wait or not, i think both ways ica stick on that. speaking of 8800gts, i was thingking about EVGA ACS version, well..buying computer parts here in montreal keeps me thingking twice, it feels me so expensive when it comes to taxes, rather tahn buying parts outside quebec. so i was thinking where i can buy a lil bit cheaper price of these, or maybe there is a store here in montreal that i can buy lil bit cheaper ( microbytes for me is the best but thingking that there are still more cheaper than them)

tried NCIX? they're based in BC. I know in Ontario I don't pay the PST when I order from there.

Regular DirectX 10 will be fine. Even so, there needs to be a very, very good rationale behind migrating to a new revision when D3D10 itself has hardly blossomed at all.

Default I think im going to wait and see****

Ill see how the 8800's perform in the new games and take it from there. I do wonder if microsoft is trying to herd people towards their consoles by playing silly buggers with drivers

Be nice if an open source alternative to their drivers was avaliable on something like LINUX. I guess card makers and games programmers will need to get together?

Tax is high in NS too, I was thinking of ducking the tax by going ebay but I find direct canada and NCIX offer good deals that helps offset this sting.

Well even THE programmer John Carmack can't get other game developers to support OpenGL, so I highly doubt a Linux distro would get some functional driver.

Default its a shame

perhaps just daydreaming..well they must have their reasons..be good if they follow the lead of statistics e.g. you have to pay serious money for programs like SAS, MINITAB, S-plus, MATHMATICA. However in the last decade open source packages centered around the free R-statisatical environment have become really popular and growing all the time. It makes life a lot cheaper for people like me and you get cutting edge-although there is more work involved initially. The downside is people are cashing in on it and producing really expensive books to guide you through problems..

DX10 cards will be fine under DX10.1, they just will only render DX10 specific effects and not DX10.1.

Well not really too much of a concern for me because I'm happy with titles available today.
