Default Do Multiple Displays demand dual PCIe X16?

I planned on going with multiple display with this new build. Not right away...but in a year or so I would like to invest in two more LCDs. A 22 inch for the centre and two 20's on each side.

Does this mean that to better future proof my new rig and maintain a high rez for FPS gaming, (I play competively) that I have to rely on one of the SLI or Xfire mobos?

How do I do this?

Thanks all...

Not necessarily 100% of the time would you require multiple video cards. Matrox' TripleHead2Go can divide the output signal from one video card onto three monitors. All you need is a video card with a dual-link DVI interface. Naturally, there are some perspective and POV idiosyncrasies associated with using multiple monitors for three-dimensional games and renders.

My understanding is that the future DisplayPort uses a single, multi-channel cable that can daisy-chain multiple displays.
