Hey guys, few week ago I read something about putting Nvidia GPU and ATI gpu running at the same time on the same machine. Does it work? can any one give me some int on it. I am searching google but I didn't find anything answering my question. I would like to know if it work, if it work well, do this allow me to fold on second card, and anything related that you know ;) I like to know many thing:)

I have gotten it to work, but I use a dual-monitor configuration, with one connected to a GTX 275, and another monitor connected to the 4890. Whichever monitor is set to #1 will be the one which 3d rendering takes place.

I did this for two reasons:

1) Folding@home - worked
2) PhysX on nVidia board - worked until 190 forceware, and now nVidia checks to see if there is a non-nVidia card in, and disables PhysX (!!!). Silly of them. Actually limits their marketshare IMHO.

The only caveat is that nVidia Control panel and Ati CCC do not work on the monitor that is on the opposite card. So if Monitor #1 is on the nVidia card, CCC will not load on that screen. It would have to load on screen #2 where the ATI card is connected.

With a single monitor config I can't comment.

Have a 9800GTX laying here and it's folding more then my 4870 but the 4870 is better in game so I would put them together doing each a task. is it ok for you gingerbee? The other point is that many costumer ask it at job and I am some what clueless about it.

It'll work in XP and Windows 7, Vista is a no-go. You'll need to have a monitor connected to the Nvidia card when you install it, afterwards you can probably get away with a dummy vga plug.

I just stuck the 9800GT I got for PhysX in another system to get it folding, it wasn't worth the bother of having it in my primary system with 3 OS's running.

Okay, a pretty non topic question, but I see it all the time so I'd like to ask. What the hell does folding mean? :D

One reason for putting both an ATI and Nvidia card in the same system is for gaming. Run the ATI card for graphics and the Nvidia card for "physx". I've never tried it myself but plenty have. Try googling that.
