My System Specs

Default can my nvid 7900 card watch HD video? or which cards are good enough?

I am wondering if my old nvid 7900 card is capable of watch hd video, I download all of my TV eposodes and some of them are in HD will I still be able to watch those eposodes with the 7900 card.
also what are some good suggestions for a HTPC video card

It doesn't do any offloading, so it all depends on your CPU.

Good HTPC card IMO is the HD4350 as mentioned numerous times.

Pretty much any Ati 2000 series and up can play HD. If your HTPC case has decent airflow you can go with passive cooling to limit noise. I actually used a hd2400 >$30 to playback Bluray without a hitch Then i upgraded to a 3850 to do a little gaming

My onboard 6100 nvidia plays 720p fine but stutters on 1080p. That 4350 will do 1080p fine as long as you are using a viewer with codecs that use your gpu.

Um, even if you have a GPU that can play HD movies smoothly without utilizing the CPU, there's only a couple programs that do this right? I'm pretty sure Media Player Classic doesn't have offloading....

Cyberlink Power DVD works great. I believe 7.3 plays both HD and Bluray. After that it only supports Bluray. On the free side I think VLC supports HD now.
