Default need some advice from you guys..
hi guys im new here hello to everyone.

here is my system specs

Samsung T240 24" ( will be here monday morning ) yesss
E8400 @ 4.050 ghz @1.29v
3GB Reaper pc2-9200 @ 1080mhz @2.2v
HD4870 512MB with accelero cooler @ 790/1100
DFI Bloodiron p35-t2rl
Arctic freezer 7 cpu cooler
Hyper 630m psu
Thermaltake shark tower


i am upgrading from a 22" monitor to a 24" 1920x1200

i play lots of games like call of duty , far cry, lots of FPS and car games .
i like to game hard.

will the current hd4870 be good enough for a monitor of this size ?

yes, you should be ok for everything except maxing out Crysis or Stalker Clear Sky

I would be tempted to get a 2nd Card....you will find that you will most certainly have to turn down the settings that you had "cranked" up on your 22"..........

......Its Official, Van Canucks are in a "Re-Building Stage"..forget about Peripherals, they need a new Platform, as in Mobo, CPU n RAM

It would be ok, 22 to 24 isnt a really big move for your VGA so it will be all ok it's sure the game like crysis and stalker will not run full ( hmm maybe if luck ) but for the rest it will be ALL ok.

I ran a similar system for 5 months, I never had any issues gaming at 1920x1200. You'll love the extra size.

I've got pretty much the same specs, and I also went from a 22" (1650*1050) to a 23"(1920*1080) and I haven't adjusted any settings at all. The only noticeable change was the fan on my 4870 has to run a bit faster, it's noticeably louder now. I let CCC control the fan so no fiddling there.

will you be fine @ 1920x1200 with a single 4870? of course you will. But the main question is will it be enough to satisfy your urge to upgrade?

i suggest you ditch the 4870 512mb and get a 4890 1gb

I was going to suggest picking up a cheap 4870 and crossfiring with your current one but then I noticed that you are on a P35 chipset so the second card would only be at 4X PCIe I believe.

You are probably OK on the 24" as people have said. Monitor your fps and if you can hold on you can pick up a 4890 cheaper when the 58xx comes out.
