Default Toxic HD 4890 or Vapor-X HD 4890

Im thinking of starting off with one of these, to replace my dead 4870X2, and than, adding another down the road. I am wondering though, whats the difference between the Toxic HD 4890 and the Vapor-X HD 4890.

I am using this mobo.

Toxic is a cooler desing looking like a 7900GTX and vapor-x are sometime overclocked a little and have a better cooler again. The direct contact surface in the vapor-x is copper filled in with copper scratch and water ( vapor ) same used for high end CPU cooler. So you have the best dissipation you can find in that type of cooler. The only problem with all these card is, the fan suck :) so the vapor can't do all the job it can do but it's already better.

yes they have a better warranty (double lifetime ). I never try their service at all. I think for myself that a GPU is pretty rare to died is you used it normally ( not like trying running Crisys on a so loved Voodoo 3:P ) So that's why I'd go ( personally ) for better cooled GPU. If you want to keep it a long time and push it to the limit then a full time warranty should be good.

Supposedly the Toxic has a better cooling setup as the fan blows across the memory while the Vapor-X's fan only blows across the chip. The Toxic is 960 core with 1.4v while the Vapor-X is only 870 core. Dunno what volts are supplied to the Vapor-X but I assume less than 1.4v. I also read somewhere that the Toxic allows for the core to be clocked up to 1100 while the other 4890's don't. Don't quote me on that though as I just read it somewhere. The Toxic's are what I am looking at for future purchases. Of course I am looking at the XFX Black Edition 1ghz if they would only hurry up and get them here in the US.

I just got my Vapor-X from DirectCanada this morning.

Idles at 57C, load is around 77C. Totally inaudible over my other case fans (~1200rpm S-FLEX "F"s and Gelid Wing 12).

Haven't got to finding the stable OC just yet though. 970/1200 ran L4D fine but froze 3DMark06.

I'll be posting some comparison benchmarks to my HD4850 and pictures of it later today.

EDIT: Posted it: Sapphire Vapor-X HD4890 1GB vs HD4850 512MB
