I had similar issues on my GTX285. Resolved by ENABLING vsync and triple buffering.

while this is probably true i can't afford it right now since i bought a new living room set today and am pretty tapped out. Maybe in a couple of months i will get another 4890 for CF.

a bit of an update. I got similar results when using HL2 (at any resolution) but i didn't eperince it while i was playing HAWX's this weekend. So IDK i'll gt another video card in a couple of months and try that.
