Exclamation 4890 vs GTX275 (VALUE)

ATI 4890 for $169.99CAD (If it goes on in-store special again) vs GTX275 $229.99CAD (with COD WAW which i won't be playing + $25 MIR)

Which one is a better buy for their performance?

During my research I found those 2 cards were quite similar, often trading hits when compared. I personally purchased the HD4890 because at the moment it was cheaper, can't say I regret it.

I also liked the fact that it was an XFX cards with all the added benefits to it. It was also an ATI card, not cuz I'm a fanboy, but cuz I always prefer to give my money to smaller companies for equivalent products. And finally, with an ATI card I was able to Xfire, not that I plan to, but I got the option.

I would say look at the cards, the price, but also the other factors, brand for the price is also a factor I wouldn't overlook.

From what I've seen in benchmarks, the 4890 is really able to pull ahead of the 275 when you start throwing overclocking into the mix. If you can keep her cool, I think the 4890 might be the way to go, especially if it's cheaper. Still though, I would recommend reading some benchmarks that compare the cards for some of the games you plan on playing, and seeing which games work best with which cards (some games get more of a benefit out of the Radeon's higher memory speed; some get more of a benefit out of the GeForce's wider bus width).

Seeing as you'll be sucked into the very addictive world of 'Folding' soon, go for the GTX 275! More PPD than the HD4890!

I've seen 4890s go as low as 159.99 after MIR. My vote is for ATi
