My System Specs

Default Is this a good deal for two 8800 GT?

I just got back into computers (building, upgrading, games) and was looking to get an affordable system together to play games. Damn it, saved so much money since the last desktop computer I got was 4 years ago and it was a Pentium 4!

Was checking for video cards and saw this on Kijiji.

XFX 8800GT ALPHA DOG 512MB DDR3 Video Card - Calgary Computers For Sale - Kijiji Calgary

You guys think it's a good deal? SLI looks so tempting after my last video card was a 128mb AGP card, lol.

Good price for them but I don't see much need for SLI anymore.

It's kijiji....sometimes there's scams, so watch out.

If you're going to SLI 8800GT, you might as well spend a bit more and get the XFX 4870 at Direct Canada.

8800GT is 2 Generation old, I wouldn't buy them if I were you. There is a good deal on NCIX right now, like a GTX260 Core 216 for 159.99$, might be worth it to invest a bit more and stay prevent a least a future upgrade.

NCIX.com - Buy BFG GeForce GTX 260 OC MAXCORE55 590MHZ 896MB 1.998GHZ GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I Video Card - BFGEGTX260MC896OCDE In Canada.

My 2 cents.

SLI is fun for a hobby but not really worth it for performance imo. Otherwise yes it's a good deal. One 8800GT will kill almost any game at 1680x1050 and even play Crysis with "cheap" very high settings in the jungle.

Aren't you the guy looking into folding? I would buy these just for folding! They should be good for 4200-4400 each! :)

All things considered, I don't know if there's many options for motherboards that will support SLI, are reliable, and cheap. I can't speak from personal experience in this case, but there are plenty of people who will vouch for Intel chipsets over the Nvidia ones, and far fewer the other way.

But with that in mind, a couple extra bucks could get you a solid single-card that's a generation newer and will still run the vast majority of games maxed out.

@Dr. Silver, I asked about folding cause I didn't know what it was. Lol, stop trying to get me into it before I even have my computer setup.

So the consensus is that one GTX260 is better than two 8800GT in SLI for gaming? Sorry, I'm not up to date on all the reviews for these cards.

I agree with everyone a single GPU is far better than any 2 cards in SLI.

Go with GTX260 you'll fair better in most games and be able to play most completely maxed out.

yea dudes, folding ain't work the time and utility bill, its gonna rob me a $3 dollar per month for utilities bills

Don't get me involve in your shits

FFS, people waste money in junk food and so much other useless stuff.

eat 1 bag of potato chips per month and you might have a chance to save your ass when you develop a strange disease

And as for the dual 8800gt s, they at a decent price. But do they work or not is a different story when you buy from kijii
