Just so you know the EVGA you linked is TR so its not life time warranty, I wouldnt run sparkle if someone paid for it for me.... Id buy this...

EVGA E-GEFORCE 9800GT Superclocked 55NM 650MHZ 512MB 1.9GHZ GDDR3 Dual DVI-I HDTV Out Video Card - DirectCanada

Its superclocked edition for ultra cheap, I dont think EVGA offers lifetime warrantys on their lower end stuff, its a 1+1 warranty. Just remember that TX, & TR, LX, and LR cards dont offer lifetime warrantys, youll see these letters in the product code.

If your paying ~100 dollars for the 9800GT, you might as well pay a bit more for the GTS250 or ATI 4850. But the cards i choose can be found in the XFX brand.

If he's gonna run Folding@Home, NVIDIA is the way to go :P

Out of those three, I'll take the EVGA version. However, check out NCIX as well, as they often have deals on the GTS250.

Also search around RFD. I've seen used 8800GT, which are the same as 9800GT, go for around $90.

I thought it was a AR, more than likely my brain making a assumption without me actually reading the full model #.

After rebates this is the same price point as your initial links:

NCIX.com - Buy EVGA E-GEFORCE GTS 250 756MHZ 512MB 2.2GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDTV Out Video Card - 512-P3-1150-TR In Canada.

XFX and evga are both good brands. Like gingerbee said, wait for a nice deal. Honestly, I would go either with a 8800gt or a 250. Don't forget to browse the buy/sell section for nice deals.

i would get this NCIX.com - Buy ASUS GeForce 9800GT 600MHZ 512MB 1.8GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI HDTV Out Video Card - EN9800GT/HTDP/512M In Canada.

its by far the quietest at load and keeps the gpu nice and cool
As for lifetime warranty there kinda useless those GPUs are just impossible to kill if your running them at stock.

Most of the times its physical damage that kills the GPU
