Default DAMMIT I KILLED MY 9800 GTX+

DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT!

i was screwin around with overclocking my i7 920 c0....

and i noticed some of the caps by the north bridge were getting really really toasty (almost all voltages maxed... except ram voltage and vcore)...

so i took one of the fans off my TRUE120 (the pull one.. was gona position it to blow over the caps.) and wihle i was pullin off the fan clips, i hit the PCB of my 9800 gtx+ w/ the metal fan clip and my monitor just went blank... black... like no signal black...

so i was like :0 OH SHt!! ive been trying different pci-e graphics slots, different monitors, different PSU's and different mobos... its still blank....

luckilly, i had a spare 8800 GTS lying around... but like.. do u guys think EVGA would let me RMA it?

I've killed a LAN port on a mobo by dropping the fan clip.... so now I use a wireless USB stick for that. I've also dropped a fan into a running PC and it ended up against the GPU. The screws in the fan instantly shorted the GPU, so it had to be RMA'ed. Luckily there was no visible signs of a short, so RMA was not a big issue... Anyways.... I wish you good luck!

well you only have yourself to blame and if your honest then no they won't. who knows give it a shot ( p.s i am very glad to find that most people would rma something they new they broke what a joke and i am not laughing i have had people tell me bull to get me to rma stuff they new they broke so i will not do it anymore because of people who brake things and think someone else should pay for it even a company like evga or the like i think that's wrong) and if you would return a item you broke to the store from none regular use would you sell it on just as quick? this is a general question not point any fingers

I agree with the above comments, why did you try changing out a fan while the computer was turned on? Thats just asking for trouble.

In reguards to the RMA, thats iffy, they might be able to tell that it was harmfull use that caused the issue and wont issue an RMA. EVGA are pretty awesome about their RMAs and it would be pretty sad to abuse the system like that =(

lol.
it was on because i was benching... and i could feel the heat commin off the caps... im running without a case btw...

so i was gona take the second fan and position it vertically down to blow right over the north bridge/caps around it...

blah i see some good in this... i now kinda have an excuse to get a gtx 260 :D

unless there is a big burn mark at the short location im sure you will get it RMA'ed I highly doubt they waste time checking it that close.... only thing I could see them saying is it died due to a power surge depending on what chip or part blew.
