My System Specs

Default So what happened to the HD 4770's?

Are these dud's or something? NCIX only has one and that's a system build part, I checked another site and they don't have any either.

Well in quebec we can haev them on order from suplier. Maybe there was a limited number on market with a break wich let ATI make a little reserve, so web site have sell the big part of it fast.

Bah. The "Local" guys had them in stock last week, now they have "Call" beside it. Is there going to be a 1GB one?

ATI dropped the ball. They launched a product based on a manufacturing process that TSMC has been having some serious issues with. That means yields are nowhere near where they are supposed to be.

If I were you, I would look at the HD 4850 which has just seen a price reduction.

Ditto. This has been news for about a week now. It really is too bad that ATI did this to consumers. Either they took an extreme risk or TSMC never told them about the problems they were having.

They hyped the 4770 launch so much too, with the whole "What if you could get great gamer cards for less than $100?" ad.

From the last line of our review:

Quote:
However, what they now need to do is follow up on the rave reviews with actual stock in the channel and a massive marketing push. Without those two things the HD 4770 may only be remembered as a footnote in the history of discreet graphics cards.

Demand is high, stock is tight, ATi is having trouble filling all the orders. ATi has alocated the 4770 GPU to laptops first and foremost, with the desktop space second fyi.

To compensate/apologize for the lack of stock, they reduced the MSRP of the 4850 to the same level/price of the 4770. My understanding is, they didn't expect the 4770 sale to usurp 4850/4830 sales so quickly. Its not the best solution, but at least they *are* providing a decent solution with the 4850 price drop to 4770 levels.
