A guy on the Hard forums fixed his dead 8800GT by baking it in the oven:

Kinda like the fix for the RRoD on a 360 lol.

The 'secret' to this is really bad manufacturing or (the more likely case) overheating the card. Basically this causes solder to reflow, correcting either a cold solder joint, or a cracked joint.

Its worth a try sometimes :)

People do put their 360s in the oven too BTW, though it's normally suggested to just use a heat gun since the oven heats up the resistors and what not which shouldn't be put under such high temperatures.

Clever way of doing it if you don't have the proper tools!

I repaired my flakey 8800GTS 512 using a proper heat gun a couple of months ago. Still have two laptops where I need to do the same due to bad solder joints on the GPU and GPU memory (T42 and some random Dell).
