My System Specs

Default 9600 GSO

Recently I purchased an XFX 9600 GSO for my second rig to start folding on. Well it's working great and everything, but here's the issue. The fan is stuck at 100% and is a bit noisy. I don't know if I'm correct about this, but if the fan connector is only a 2 pin, the speed can't be controlled right? I've tried precision and rivatuner and the speed won't change, it says it is but nothing happens. So unless anyone has any ideas why this is happening or knows that the 2 pins won't work for fan adjustment then I suppose I can invest in a fan controller and do it myself, right?

Fan connector on a GPU? Fan speed should be controlled by the Nvidia drivers if you have the new ones. It should be full balst before you get into windows and then the drivers kick in and it should slow down. Try uninstalling reinstalling drivers. If not maybe its a faulty card.

It's connected to the GPU, I haven't touched it. But the pin is only 2. Just like this card is... http://www.pcnews.by/UserFiles/Image...0gs_02_big.jpg

You are using the latest Precision, with the latest drivers, correct? I did some research, and found that some GSOs were faulty with no fan adjustment possible.

Fan speed variation is still possible with a 2 pin connector, if the board controls the voltage to the fan. The 3rd wire is for RPM tracking.

Yeah 185 drivers and the newest version of precision. I guess I could uninstall my drivers and wipe them clean if that could cause it. Either way a fan controller is like 15 bucks and it'd be easy enough to wire for that.

I recently puchased an XFX Geforce 9600 gso 726mb aswell. I dont have a problem with my fan. to be honost i thought it would be loud. But its pretty soft i can hardly hear it. I hear my heatsink fan more than that. The thing is .. i dont know is my fan faulty then because i dont notice it getting loud. I hardly play games i will have to check.

but how much u get ur card for ? I got mine for like around $76 or sumtin from tiger direct. sale!

Yeah same price, mid 70s from tiger. I just put on a different aftermarket cooler I had on an older card. It's quiet now and folding at about 60C

Not sure if this will solve your problems but you can get a support ticket from their website, I ended up with a resistor plug in the mail that lowered the noise by a 'tiny' bit. You can try asking for a new heatsink too like I did with my 8600gt but in your case, I dont think it'll help much.

Also, be warned, xfx sometimes likes using nonstandard holes for their cards, so some aftermarket coolers that may be compatible may not with the xfx.
