Default silly question?

Probably, but here goes anyway: can you sli a 8800GT with 9800GTX? Since I was offered a 9800gtx cheep, I thought about trying it.

Nope. However, you can SLI 9800GTX and 9800GTX+.

How cheap you talking? you could use the 9800GTX mainly and the 8800GT for PhysX

Thanks Jake. The 9800GTX+ will set me back $110 - I'm thinking about it. Might just save for a bit and pick up a used 260 or 280 - some guys will be moving on to shiny new cards soon I'd wager.

Yeah go for a 260 at least. You would notice a difference between the 8800GT and 9800GTX, but it wouldn't be a drastic difference. But with the 9800GTX and 8800GT for PhsyX, might be a good boost... but I'd still wait and get a 260, and keep the 88 for PhysX, that'd be a nice combo! They should be selling cheap soon enough, you can get them new for around 200 bucks now-a-days!

Theres a used GTX 260 sp 216 in the b/s threads for $200, might be able to deal him down though considering the low price of new GTX 260s atm. Ive gone from an 8800GT to the 9800GTX, I did notice a decent increase in performance personally. If you could sell the 8800GT for 80-90 bucks, it would be worth the investment to goto 9800GTX for that price. But I agree with jake, youll notice quite a bit more difference going to the GTX 260 over the 9800GTX, its just going to cost quite a bit more.

well if you overclock a 8800gt, the performance cames real close to an 4850, i have never test a 9800gtx+, but from 8800gt to 9800gtx+ is such little performance its not worth it.

And seeing your a dadzilla i doubt you have much time gaming anyways, but then again i could be wrong. For now your fine with a 8800gt, wait for the next gen thats coming 2010

The performance gains from a 8800GTX to a 9800GTX+ were very much significant....obviously the 8800Gt to 9800GTX+ will be such......
reakky man...have you actually tried and proven this theory...?..or is it solely based on "reads".....8800GT to 9800GTX+ is huge performance gains....

Exclamation

^ well, time to use your google

8800GT vs 9800gtx+

The performance gain for switch 5%-10%

And yea.... jumping from 8800gtx to 9800gtx+ will save the world from global warming

If you think that extra 1k of benchmark is worth the switch then its your call. But as of now most people who benches are on gtx 295 or gtx 285 sli

4850>9800gtx+ in AA games
Time to push that 8800gt to the skies

Let me guess...another "Google article"....? I had an 8800GTX in my 2nd Rig for the longest time...when I replaced it with the current 9800GTX+ the gains were considerably more than 5% - 10%.....damn...had the numbers written down somewhere...I always run numbers....oh well.....
