but I'm looking for excuse to stick with obsolete GTX 280 (1680X1050, no benchmarks, just recreational gaming).

I hadn't realized they were both brand new.

Ok, first one has arrived, second one is in the mail, it's so hard not to install it right away. So the processing part of 275 is higher than 280 but the memory is lower? How does this difference apply in real world use?

Higher resolution and eye-candy is handled better by the GTX 280's slightly superior memory interface. That's about as easy as I can sum it up.

+1 ^^^ - pretty much sums it up......275 is 896 MB Vram while 280 is 1GB. Think of the 280 as a 65nm version of the 1GB 285.....As Yukon mentioned..for higher Res, as in 1920 x 1200, the 1GB Cards are best suited for "cranking up" all the settings.
Enjoy your Sli arrangement!

I still am not sure what the "reasoning" was for the introduction of the 275....I guess it was to have a 896 MB Card with 240 Stream Processors vs the 260 (216) with 216 Stream Processors......marketing!

All the benchies (even here on HWC) show the 275 on par, or outperforming the 280 in the majority of tests, for less $$$.

That is pritty good reasoning for this guy.
