Default Best GPU setup for $670

I was wondering what the best video card setup would be for a high end gaming pc....

I think 2 of these in xfire would own: XFX 4890 xxx edition $309.98 x2= 619.98
some youtube videos I've seen show these cards in xfire out-performing the 295!

any suggestions?

2 4890's will beat a 295. a 295 is 2 underclocked 275 cards. The 4890 is faster then a GTX 280 sli setup, but slower then a 285 setup if that makes sense.

Either get 2 4890's or try and stretch your budget by $100 and get dual 285's.

2 GTX 275s would out perform 2 4890s id say, GTX 275s can be had for around $275 right now and perform as well as a GTX 280 and just shy of a GTX 285, but out perform the 4890.

Maybe at 1680x1050 and lower, but at 1920x1080 and higher the 448 bit bus and 896mb would be a bad idea. if you're already paying that much why not pay more for a top card (280/285)

The GTX 275 does just fine @ 19:12 resolutions option I dont know what you mean about it suffering because of its framebuffer, and SLIed they out perform a GTX 285/4870x2. Read the HWC review of the card, its basically competing against the GTX 285 but at a lower cost.... besides that GTX 285s come with the same amount of frame buffer, a 512 MB video card bairly suffers at 19:12.

If you already have an xfire board, go with the ATI. If you have an SLI board, go with the Nvidia. If you are buying a new board, I would go with the Nvidia setup so you can fold them and max your PPD when you are not gaming.

lol what's next? The GTX 270? (Not quite as good as a 275 but it's better than a 265 for the money!)

If you're going to higher resolutions dual 4890's would rape, but the folding would suck. The 285's would best the 4870's by a little bit but for about $100 more. 2x 275's would be alright for this but the 448-bit memory bus is limiting, and it just sucks. 448, who the hell thought of that?

IUVSTANG's (spelling?) suggestion is pretty good, but I'm not sure about the 4850X2 having issues like microstuttering, especially in crossfire. The folding would still not be that great, but it's just about 2x285's in SLI.
