rj when your done with that 780i benching lemme come over and steal it for awhile will ya? I hope to do the same thing as your planning if I can decide on a SLi board to buy. What do you guys think is a solid SLi board using ddr2 that have 2 pcie 2.0 slots (I really will never use 3). Something with adiquate overclocking features that won't break me.

Not being able to SLi on my P45 board restricted my benching scores so I decided to rip apart my new 260 and reapply TIM on the contacts and shuffled the heat pad thingies into thier proper allignment, helped my temps just fractionally enough to get higher clocks but I'm unable to SLi..Boooohoooo. Anyways it was fun nonetheless and getting results is what it's all about. Heres what I managed to eke out with one of my black beauties and it just makes me want to try SLi even more!

Well Always...I did find and rder a BFG OCX Edition 280 from Newegg....ordered on a SAt night..thought about all day Sunday..then immediately canceled the order Monday AM......with the handling fee (Newegg), delivery etc...would have been $440....the Benchmark scores and e-peen doesn't mean quite that much....
Been back at the yardwork this past weekend....picked up 3 more bananas from Costco..today..$20 each, not bad size...my cluster in the ground is now up about a foot and is now 8 plants.
Dug up one of my windmill Palms..toast :(

As for aboard, what an nVidia Evga 750i.....to be quite honest, I haven't been researching those Boards, but I do know that my 780i Board has been plugging along nicely for well over a year now.
Have heard some issues with the 750i Boards, but not sure of details....

The 750i ftw is supose to be a great board, its roughly the same price as the mid range P45 boards and boasts dual 16x PCI slots. If you can find a 790i ftw digital for cheap their pretty awesome boards to work with as well, but I ran into an RMA on mine so who knows...

9800 GTX+ vs 9800GTX+ SLI results.
Hardware used in 2nd Rig below. Tests done on exactly the same config and Driver.
I was impressed with the performance boost of adding a $159 GPU....a little more tweaking and I'm sure I could crack 20K on 3DMK06....no DX10 or Vantage as XP 32 Bit is loaded on this Rig.

Res 1680 x 1050
E8400 OC'd to 4.05 Ghz
2 x 2GB Mushkin Redlines @ stock 1 Ghz

3DMK 06
Single 9800 GTX+ = 15,659

9800 GTX+ SLI = 19,353

FC 2 Short Ranch - All Ultra No AA
Single 9800 GTX+ = 43 FPS

9800 GTX+ SLI = 70 FPS

Crysis Warhead Bench "Ambush" - All Gamer No AA
Single 9800 GTX+ = 37 FPS

9800 GTX+ SLI = 56 FPS

As the results show, for someone with an "average" gaming Rig that is looking for some performance increases, without dropping upwards of $250 - $400 on a new single GPU, provided they have a Board that supports SLI, the additon of a $159 9800 GTX+ and SLI provided substantial gains overall.
Obviously a Quad Core 9550 would provide a little more "poop" then the Duo Core E8400.

I think its fair to say that the days of poor SLI performance n scaling are well behind us now.

Cheers

I have a single gts250 in my rig (q6600 680i, 4GB, vista 64) and another one coming this week. I will post my benching results to see how the gts250 stacks up against its doppleganger the 9800gtx... It might take me a while to get them up as I am watercooling my rig at the same time I add the 2nd gts250. I might PM you so we can set up a 9800gtx vs gts250 thread for people to have easy access to the comparison.
Interested?

I agree it won't be optimal with the different cpus, but maybe we can set them at the same speeds (3.2, 3.4, or 3.6Ghz) and let em go. We can post screenies of results from 3dmark and vantage so peeps can see the cpu scores. I have Far Cry 2, Crysis, and GTA4 as games that have bench tools. I also have 3dmark06 and vantage.
