Component out via Svideo out question....

Going to do my own research on the subject as soon as I post this, but thought one of the video gurus here might know the answer from first hand experience....

Most vid cards now ship with an adapter that splits the svideo(out) signal up into the 3 RCA component out connectors.... Is that a normal function of all svideo(out) connectors, or is the video card itself doing some form of internal switching when it detects those connectors being used?

I suspect it's something that's happening internal to the vid card, but if it isn't, would one of those adapters work on a DVD player (or standard def cable set top box... :) ) that only has standard composite, cable, or Svideo(out)?

If it would work with a standard output, would there be any benefit (cleaner signal?) from using that rather than the svideo out?

Heh... ok, forget I asked.... I guess it depends on if it's a 4 pin or a 7 pin connector. Maybe I should stop trying to use computer s-video cable for A/V applications.... :)

edit: Guess I'll mark that down as my "learn something new every day" moment for today. :)

(Just verified that the cable box is only a 4 pin, and couldn't immediately find a s-video cable from a vid card, but assume that it's 4 pin since it's designed to go from the vid card to a standard TV input).

i have not tried it my self but i know that the adapter does all the converting if this is what you mean.( video signal is not changed by the card but by adapter ) i just have nit tried it in the sense of the word should work

Yeah, it's a function of the 7 pin connector on vid cards vice the standard 4 pin on standard A/V devices. Once you go VIVO it's a 9 pin.
